Final Blogpost

Hello, I am Gabriel Iwamoto and this is my final physics assignment. Our group did a project of installing bag hooks in the Konia bathrooms. We can see that we were effective when putting these hooks in. We were able to get a 92% approval for the bag hooks and that was a great out look. After surveying again, we were able to get an 83% yes that our bag hooks would be used. However, this project was not without its flaws. We had to start from scratch many times, testing our will to continue our project. We came through and did almost twice the work that we needed to do, solidifying the saying, "where there's a will, there's a way." I would like to think that we have done a service to Kamehameha schools, even as something as small as a project as this. I personally enjoyed this project, it was real fun to get stressed out and having something to show for your merit at the end. I would personally like to thank my group and Mr. Blake, over this quarter we have bonded and that was something cool to see. Seeing as this is my final physics assignment, I would like to say that knowing that this is the last time that I will step into the physics class room Konia 209, it gets really heavy and I mean from the bottom of my heart that this was a great year.

Bag Hooks Final Blog Post

Overall this project was quite an experience. I learned to work cooperatively as a group, and also efficiently. This project I thought benefited our schools, by trying to make the environment a better, more efficient place for us as students, as well as faculty. Things that went well in this project, was the teamwork. Throughout the course of this project we learned to work together, to get the project done. We communicated efficiently, and we notified each other when it was their turn to do the blog, or which part they had to do on the written report.  The deployment of our project went good as well. It went smoothly, and we got what we needed to get done in a good amount of time. Things that did not go as planned, included the rejection of our first, and second proposition. What didn’t go as planned, was the late deployment because we had to change our ideas so much. Our first plan got shot down because we couldn’t get the proper paper towel rolls for the dispensers that we wanted to get. Our second idea which was to clean the boys bathroom of the vandalism was rejected as well, because the janitors beat us by cleaning the mess before we could get to it. Even though we had challenges along the way, we managed to work through it and get what we needed to get done, even if it was a day or two late. I learned that in order to complete a big project like this, it takes communication. Communication is key because without that factor, we wouldn’t have been able to get any work that we did complete, done. We worked together, and communicated to each other every night. We got the project done efficiently through the process of communication. Honestly I don’t think this activity needs to be changed at all. It’s purpose is meaningful, and the students are very hands on in this project which is good because it requires a lot of the student’s efforts. Initially it didn’t really dawn on me that what I was doing was science. I had to find the relationship of this project to science. Once I found that relationship, I finally found the connection to the purpose as to why we were doing this project in the first place. This project helped me broaden my view, and made me realize that in almost everything we do in life, there is some sort of connection to science. 

Final Blogpost - Liana

This project ended up being so much more than I thought it would be.  Initially I really didn't want to do this project and I wished that we continued learning physics concepts like the other physics classes.  As the project progressed, I definitely changed my mind.  The backpack hook idea ended up being very successful, and I'm glad we were able to install them.  I actually think that it was a good thing that our first plan failed.  The failure of that plan caused our group to work together more and really focus on succeeding in the project.  We became determined to find and address a problem in a few short weeks, before the final presentation.  I learned the importance of communication within a group.  Without communication, this project really would not be possible.  Our group didn't always agree on certain ideas, and we had to work together to carry out our ideas.  In addition to communication, this project taught me the importance of persistence.  When a conflict comes up, the answer is not to give up, but it is to persevere.  When times get rough, then you just need to work harder.  Finally, I learned that physics really is all around us.  We just didn't know it because we were unaware of the physics concepts.  Through the use of physics, we can solve real-life problems.  Honestly, I wouldn't change this activity.  At first I didn't like it, but that's because I was in the process of learning the lesson.  I didn't understand that all the difficulty and conflicts that I was going through would teach me a few life lessons.  It's good that it is a random group assignment because it taught us to work with people that we aren't as comfortable with, and that's life.  I didn't really feel like it was science for a while until we had to state the project's relation to physics and collect and analyze the data.  Overall, this was a great project and I encourage other students to do this project with an open mind and hopefully improve our school in the future. (:

Final Blog Post

Our group went though many struggles but was still able to pull out a successful project at the end of the quarter.  Our group first tried to install new paper towel dispenser to reduce waste and stop the frequent jamming of the current paper towel dispensers.  We were well on our way into that project when we heard the bad news that we had to halt our current project and restart from scratch.  Our next project was to install bag hangers in the boys and girls bathrooms.  We first needed to construct our new proposal and detailed design which went by quickly
since we were in a tight bind for time.  Thanks to Mr. Blake
he was able to set us up with the people to install our hooks
before they were approved by Mrs. Martin.  In the mean while
we were able to set up a pre survey asking if people would use our new idea.  Although we did not get as much responses as we wanted, the people who did vote said they would want it to be seen in the bathrooms.  At the end, we thought that this project was a success and that people really do use it now.  I feel that this was a great project because it teaches us what actual scientist go through.  It also teaches us how to stay on task because we have a lot of time on our hands.  Over all i enjoyed this project and working with my group.  It gave me a new way on how to view physics in the real world, it also helped me to learn more about the actual process in an experiment.

Weekend Blogpost May 20

Friday night we had our final presentation, and I think it went pretty well aside from the fact that we went a little overtime.  We are glad that the project is almost at an end, and that it was overall successful.  I always get excited when I walk into the bathroom and see that our bag hooks are being used(:  Anyway, this weekend we worked on revising our final written report.  We put a lot of time and effort into this project, so we are hoping to get a good grade for it.  Although we ended up being behind, we worked our best to try to meet the time requirements.  Even though we didn't meet the individual deadlines, we were able to get everything done by presentation day.  Hopefully our written report will really show everything that we have done over the course of this quarter, and everything that we have learned from this physics project.

Blogpost May 18th

Today was the final project for our group. We had to listen to other groups present and that was something that was pretty interesting. We had to sit and watch tons of groups. All of the information was quite unique o it kept me engaged for most of the time. I think that this was an awesome experience because our physics group was able to make a huge difference in the daily lives of the students who spend eight hours of their days in school. I think the coolest project was to clean the stream by the main gate. I think boogie boarding down the river would be pretty cool.

Final Rehearsals

Today we worked on our final report, we also made a skit that will be used as our "attention getter," for our final presentation in front of the administration. We had the work split, while me and Liana worked on the skit, Jason and Gabe would be inside the classroom revising the power point presentation, and the final report. We added the pictures that we took from the installation of our project, and we worked on extending our final report. Our next and final project is to come up with a script so that we know what to say on our final presentation day. Our project is soon coming to an end, it's just a matter of getting everything together that we will need.
